With the holidays approaching, it’s time to remember military personnel serving overseas through the annual Travis Bachman Memorial Christmas Stocking Drive.
The event, in its 18th year, will be held from 2:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the American Legion, 405 S. Main St.
A change to this year’s event is that only filled full-sized Christmas stockings will be accepted because of increase shipping prices by the USPS. Individual items will not be accepted.
The filled stockings will be collected in a drive through process in the Legion’s parking lot.
Suggested items to fill either full-sized handmade or purchased Christmas stockings include:
• Individual packets of Gatorade, H2O flavor packets
• Beef jerky, tuna packets, Ramen noodles, cake in a mug mixes, mixed nuts, cashews, cookies
• Hand warmers and hand-held games
• Toiletries (please place in a Zip lock bag), foot powder, lens cloths (No hotel samples)
• AA batteries
• Magazines, word puzzles, Hacky Sacks, Yo-Yo’s
• Wet wipes, hand sanitizer, lip balm
• A signed Christmas card addressed to Service Member
To help cover shipping costs, patrons are asked to donate $10 per stocking.
Cash donations are also being accepted to help cover the postage. Checks are being accepted and made payable to: We Support our Troops.
The Christmas stockings will be boxed up and mailed the morning after the drive.
