Three members of the Greeley County girls tennis team competed in the first day of the Class 3-2-1A state tournament Friday in Hays.

Singles player Shalee Myers went 1-2. She defeated Kelsey Koblitz of South Barber in the first round 6-0, 6-0, then fell to Miranda Erisman from Maranatha Academy, 6-1, 6-4. In the losers' bracket, she fell to Somer Schmidt from Larned, 9-2. Myers will have a chance today to place ninth at best. If she wins her first match, she will be in the ninth-place match. A loss will put her in the 11th-place match.

On the doubles side, senior Kelli Crittenden and junior Haylie Greeson went 0-2. The Lady Jackrabbits fell to Jillian Poynter and Emil Ramseyer from Wichita Independent, 6-3, 6-3, then lost to Katie Becker and Erin Merklein from South Barber, 9-3.

The state tournament will end today.
