Walter Neill Hays

ELKHART — Walter Neill Hays, 79, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at the Morton County Care Center in Elkhart after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Danville, Ark., to Noble Walter and Teddie Alice (Foley) Hays.

Hays attended Seminole Oklahoma High School and Northwestern Oklahoma State. He was a teacher, principal and superintendant in the Rolla school district for 34 years, and later was superintendant in Weskan.

He married Lila Lee Goodnight; she survives. Other survivors include sons Brent Hays, Brad Hays and Bart Hays, all of Bristow, Okla., and Brock Hays of Rifle, Colo.; a daughter, Becki Richardson of Elkhart; brothers Noble Hays and James Hays, both of Seminole, Okla.; and sisters Myra Dell Ralston of Oklahoma City, and Gayl Martin of Grapevine, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Altha June Hays.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart.

A celebration of life is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rolla High School Gymnasium. The family will be available starting at 10 a.m. Food and drinks will be available and friends are encouraged to gather. Graveside service is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Englewood Kansas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Rolla High School.
