The Garden City High School debate team had another successful tournament Saturday at the Dodge City tournament. Nine students qualified for the KSHSAA State competition that will be held in Derby in January.

The students that qualified for state include: Kaitlynn Smith, Isac Escarcega, Ryan Sabata, Mack Crone, Long Nguyen, Jaziel Armenta, Brianna Calderon, Jacob Arellano, and Anna Warner.

In addition to the state qualifiers, the team took second place overall at the tournament. 

The following students also placed in the tournament: Rafael Uribe/Edgar Reyes, second place, novice; Amanda Serafin/Isabel Serafin, fourth place, open; Ryan Sabata/Isac Escarcega, fifth place, open; and Jaziel Armenta/Brianna Calderon, sixth place, open.

The team will be competing at the Thomas More Prep tournament in Hays on Saturday and at the West Kansas National Forensic League National Qualifier in McPherson.
