Who’s the angel in your life?

You don’t know them, but they’ve touched lives.

There was the woman who donated her hair so cancer patients could have wigs.

They may be the woman who took her love for children to another level when she volunteered to provide equestrian instruction to special needs children.

The people who taught Sunday School, worked with children with mental disabilities, served meals to families who recently lost a loved one.

Maybe they volunteer at a hospital, mentoring youngsters at an elementary school or at an area church. Or they could be people who shuttle seniors to doctor’s appointments or mentored the lives of prisoners.

They may be among the dozens, nay hundreds, nay thousands of individuals who give of themselves for the benefit of others.

They live next door to you and get your mail while you are away. They live down the street and check on shut-ins, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, coach the Little League team, volunteer at the food pantry.

They take care of roadside grave markers, shovel their neighbor’s driveway or provide professional services at no charge.

They are missionaries and volunteer tutors; senior citizens and high school students, and they live in the communities of Garden City, Scott City, Lakin and Ulysses— and so many places in between. We want to honor them all.

If there was ever a time when we need to be reminded about the best of humanity, it’s an era where our political climate brings out the worst.

How about people telling us who makes their world a better place? From recreation volunteers to those who give their expertise freely at the library or the school or the church or the hospital?

In today’s paper, and each day’s paper, up until Aug. 27, we are asking you to tell us who your angel is. Send us the information by email or snail mail; drop the form by our office and use whatever amount of paper necessary to make your nomination.

We will include them in an upcoming edition.

You know deserving individuals. You may be one yourself. Please send us your nominations today.
