Senior Ian Shelden and junior Ryder Yakel both scored 21 points to lead Lakin to a 61-49 victory over Hooker, Okla., in the first round of the Blue and Red Classic in Hugoton.

Hooker was led by junior Dakotah McBride, who had 20 points in the loss, while John Godfrey added 12.

Lakin is slated to play Hugoton after the win while Hooker will play Gruver, Texas.

Jumping out to a 12-point lead at the half, Guymon handled Southwestern Heights 62-53 in the first round of the Blue and Red Classic in Hugoton thanks in part to 16- and 15-point performances from Derek Portillo and Carter Nash, respectively.

Three players scored in double digits for the Mustangs, but it would all be in a losing effort. Jorge Dela Torre led SWH with 15 points.

Guymon advances with the win to face Ulysses while Heights will play Perryton, Texas.

After an 18-point performance from sophomore Zach Zerr, Ulysses had to grind out a 51-47 victory over Perryton in the first round of the Blue and Red Classic in Hugoton.

Zerr was aided by senior Freddy Romero, who had 10 points in the win.

Perryton was led offensively by Ivan Tevis, who put up 15 points in the loss.

Ulysses advances to play Hooker while Perryton is slated to play Southwestern Heights.

Led by sophomore Zack Leininger’s 12 points, Hugoton cruised to a 41-34 victory over Gruver in the first round of the Blue and Red Classic in Hugoton.

Senior Kellen Watkins added 11 points in the victory for the tournament host, while Aaron Felderhoff led all scorers on the night with 14 points in the losing effort.

With the win, Hugoton will play Lakin while Gruver will play Hooker.

Ulysses’ Kristen Calderwood’s 16 points was not enough to overcome Guymon, Okla., as the Lady Tigers came up shy by one point, 54-53, in the opening round of the tournament.

Kali Kenny added 10 points for Ulysses while Carolina Gallegos and Ally Payne each scored seven points.

Ulysses will play Southwestern Heights today at 3 p.m. in Hugoton.

Not even Lakin’s Robin Ritsema’s and Kaylee Dale’s combined 24 points (12 each) was able to stop Hooker, Okla., from winning 53-43 in the opening round in Hugoton.

Hooker’s Kyra Carthcart scored a game-high 19 points and Taelor Parker added 16.

Lakin will will face-off against Perryton, Texas, today at 6:30 p.m. in Hugoton in the consolation bracket on Day 2 of the tournament.

Gruver, Texas, manhandled Southwestern Heights, 55-27, in the opening round, despite the Lady Mustangs’ Ivon Amparan scoring eight points and Laci Rush matching her for a team-high.

Rush hit four of her six free throws.

The Lady Mustangs will play the Ulysses Lady Tigers today ay 3 p.m. in the consolation round of the tournament.

Hugoton had the upperhand against Perryton, Texas, in the opening round, advancing with a 76-46 win.

Dallie Hopkinson led the Lady Eagles with 28 points, including three 3-pointers. Katy Heger had two 3-pointers for 14 points.

The Lady Eagles are slated to play Hooker, Okla., today at 6:30 p.m. in the second round of the three-day tournament.
