Mission: To serve all, from conception to natural death, with equal value and work with others to strengthen and support our communities. Formerly Catholic Social Services, Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas serves 28 counties in Kansas with offices in Garden City, Dodge City and Great Bend. United Way funding is received from each community and those dollars stay in those communities.

Number of people served: 71

United Way allocation: $10,000

What the money is used for: United Way funds are used for its Marriage for Keeps program to teach healthy relationships and support to couples interested in enhancing or improving their relationships. However, the program no longer receives federal funding. Rather than classes, Catholic Charities works with people in all of their programs to develop those skills and healthy relationships.

From the director: “The funding that we get from United Way is extremely important. The funding and the partnerships with the other United Way member agencies is important to us. Particularly for those of us in small communities, the collaboration with that network is very important to us.”
