Despite scoring eight runs and collecting 13 hits, the Garden City Wind’s defense and pitching couldn’t hold off the Santa Fe Fuego, falling 11-8, in Pecos League action on Wednesday at Clint Lightner Stadium.

For the struggling Wind, it was their 12th setback in 14 games. Santa Fe improved to 8-2.

The Wind led early, 3-2, after two innings, only to have the Fuego score two runs in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Garden City, meanwhile, added only a single run in fifth, making it 10-4. The Wind scored twice in both the seventh and innings, sandwiched around a single tally by Santa Fe, making it 11-4 as neither team could score in the ninth.

Shea Bell and Brandon Cooksey had two RBIs each, while Gabe Cook led the 13-hit attack with three.

Ethan Rosebeck pitched the first four innings for the Wind, but was touched with 10 hits, eight runs, seven of them unearned, walked three and had two strikeouts. Four more pitchers finished out over the final five innings.
