SYRACUSE — Joyce Marie Owings Puckett, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Syracuse, to Clarence Grant Owings and Blanche Marie James Owings. She graduated from Syracuse High School as the valedictorian of her class in 1950.
On Dec. 18, 1954, she married Norvin Laverne Puckett in Syracuse. He preceded her in death as did her parents.
Mrs. Puckett was a high school math teacher in Garden City before returning to Syracuse. After substitute teaching for several years, she accepted the position of high school mathematics teacher at Syracuse High School in 1971, a position she held until her retirement in May 1994. In 2009, she moved to Colorado Springs due to her health.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Ledford of Colorado Springs; three sons, Keith Puckett of Syracuse, Duane Puckett of Lincoln, Neb., and Kevin Puckett of Colby; a brother, Norman Owings of Hays; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
