The Garden City Wind got back on the winning track Thursday night as they opened a four-game home and home series with the Great Bend Boom with a 10-1 rout of the Boom at Clint Lightner Stadium.

It didn’t take long for the Wind’s offense to kick into gear, as Joey Cecere opened with a double to lead off the first and scored on an RBI single by Eric Esquillin.

Clay Ardeeser had an RBI single to score Esquillin to cap off the opening frame.

In the second, the Wind added a single tally, following the same formula as the first with Cecere getting a two-out double and being plated on Esquillin’s RBI single, making it 3-0.

The lead would grow to 5-0 with two more Wind runs in the fourth.

Matt Consigli homered to lead off the inning and then Ardeeser singled in Cecere.

Great Bend finally broke through for a run in the fifth against starter Austin Boyle. Tevin Padgett’s sacrifice fly scored Dominique Lincoln.

The Wind continued to pummel the Boom pitching staff, breaking the game open in the seventh with five runs, making it 10-1.

Consigli had an RBI single and Cecere drove in a pair of runs with a double. Esquillin had an RBI groundout to score Consigli. Cecere eventually came home on a throwing error by Great Bend’s first baseman.

The final inning and a half was uneventful. While the Wind pitchers limited Great Bend to four hits, their offense was powered by Cecere (3 hits, 2 RBI), Esquillin (2 hits, 3 RBI), Ardeeser (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Consigli (2 hits, 2 RBI).

Boyle picked up victory, going seven innings, giving up just the four hits and one earned run. He walked two and had five strikeouts. Ian Miller was saddled with the loss.

The victory brought the Wind back to the .500 mark at 13-13 while Great Bend saw its record dip to 11-12 as the teams battle for the second spot in the North Division of the Pecos League.

Next up, the Wind travels to Great Bend for a 6:30 p.m. Friday game. They are back home on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. test again with Great Bend and then close out the four-game series with a road game on Sunday.
