Two Liberal men were killed and three others were injured in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday night in Stevens County.

Andres Sandval, 37, Liberal, and Juan Sebastian-Diago, 26, Liberal, died from injuries they sustained in the accident, which occurred at about 6:27 p.m. Saturday on Country Road 20, about seven miles south of Kansas Highway 51 in Stevens County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the occupants were traveling southbound on CR20 in a 2008 Chevy Uplander, when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the east ditch. The driver, Sandval, over-corrected the vehicle, which started to skid sideways and again entered the ditch, where it rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its top.

Sandval and Sebastian-Diago were taken to Stevens County Hospital, where they later were pronounced dead.

Two of the passengers, Javier Villanueva, 41, and Diego Villanueva, 23, both of Liberal, were taken to Stevens County Hospital. Their conditions were unavailable as of press time.

Another passenger, Michael Adam-Facio, 26, Liberal, was taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. His condition was also unavailable as of press time.
