LeRoy Vannaman died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at his home in Garden City.
He was born July 18, 1930, in Cimarron, to Ray and Evilo Warren Vannaman. He lived in Kalvesta until the age of 10, when the family moved to Garden City. He graduated from high school in Garden City in 1948.
On June 4, 1950, he married Dorothy Mae Hoyt.
Mr. Vannaman worked for Northern Natural Gas Co. from 1949 to 1986. He and his wife moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1978 and returned to Garden City in 1987 after his retirement.
He was a member of First Christian Church for many years where he served as a trustee and most recently became a member of Community Congregational Church United Church of Christ. He enjoyed carpentry work, including building and remodeling homes and crafting furniture. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing and cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his children, Mike and wife Mary Ann Vannaman of Garden City, Rick and wife Sally Vannaman of Overland Park, and Kay and husband Jeff Carter of Bristol, Va.; a brother, Warren Vannaman of Niceville, Fla.; two sisters, Wanda Ward of Lakin, and JoAnn Jones of Dodge City; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Maxine Knight and Lottie Mae Sperry.
A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community Congregational Church in Garden City, with the Rev. Steve Bridwell officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
