WICHITA The 2013 Kansas Procurement Conference is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview, 400 W. Douglas, Wichita.

Once registered, contractors and suppliers will be scheduled for one-on-one, 15 minute meetings with their matched buyers. The matches are made based on the NAICS codes (industry codes) provided by suppliers and buyers. These short meetings will give the suppliers and buyers a chance to exchange information and learn about future procurement opportunities.

"The matchmaker meetings were the most popular aspect of last year's conference, and so we are offering the same opportunity for suppliers and buyers to get to know each other this year", said SBA District Director Wayne Bell. "Making new business connections in a forum like this is something that shouldn't be missed. In addition, the workshops provide businesses with critical tools to help them drive economic growth and create jobs." Bell added.

The five workshops that will be scheduled throughout the day include:

* Certification opportunities for federal, state and local procurement

* Generational characteristics and workforce challenges for business

* Competing for government contracts

* Navigating City, county and government purchasing

* Exporting: Benefits and challenges

The agenda also features a keynote address by Wes Sunderman, manager of purchasing at AGCO Corpo.'s Hesston facility.

SBA and its cosponsors are anticipating 200 small businesses and buyers from government agencies and prime contractors. Purchasing representatives from Spirit Aerosystems, Cessna Aircraft Company, Bombardier Learjet, Hawker Beechcraft Corporation, McConnell Air Force Base, Fort Riley, the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, the Coleman Company, and Wichita Public Schools have confirmed.
