With an 8-5 win on Tuesday night at Clint Lightner Stadium, the Garden City Wind have won four in a row and now sit alone atop the Pecos League’s North Division at 20-16.

The latest victory, over a skidding Great Bend Boom (13-22) squad that has lost seven consecutive games, came on the back of starting pitcher Austin Boyle and two big innings from the offense.

Boyle allowed just one run through six innings of Tuesday’s game, before a three-run seventh cut the Boom’s deficit to 5-4. But even that rally came after the Wind broke a 1-all game open with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth. Beau Welborn’s three-run blast provided much of the punch.

Then, in the eighth, the Wind scored three more, including two on Clay Ardeeser’s two-run double that plated Joey Cecere and Eric Esuilin, each of whom had reached via a single.

Boyle finished eight innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out five in the win.

With second-place Trinidad idle Tuesday night, the Wind now have a half-game lead over the Triggers (21-18). The Wind and Boom meet again at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, this time at Al Burns Field in Great Bend. The Triggers don’t play again until they come to Garden City for a three-game set with the Wind beginning at 6:30 Friday night.
