Austin Love has a pretty simple philosophy."I believe how hard you work in school is a reflection of how you will work in the real world," the South Gray High School graduate wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
If Love's 3.95 grade-point average and numerous honors and activities are any indicator, he's put in his share of hard work.
Love was a Kansas Board of Regents Scholar, salutatorian of his graduating class, a Kansas University Honors Scholar, Dodge City Community College Scholar, scholar's bowl state qualifier and scholar's Bowl league champions, and was on the All A Honor Roll. He was a member of National Honor Society, Men's Letter Club, Kansas Association for Youth, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and pep band. He also played football, basketball, cross country, and ran track and was a member of the South Gray High School yearbook staff
English composition was his favorite class in high school.
"My favorite class was definitely English comp because we had a really great teacher who I think has set us up to be very successful in college," Love wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
His least favorite class was physics, "because it was by far the hardest course I had to take, and although I learned a ton, it was very stressful."
Love enjoys hunting and being outdoors, "because I like taking a break from the world to just relax."
The basketball court has a special place in Love's heart, and supplied some of his fondest memories.
"In basketball, I had the privilege to be a part of one state championship, one state runner-up, and one state third-place finish," Love wrote.
Love's advice for incoming freshmen at South Gray High School:
"Enjoy every part of high school because it will go by way too fast," he wrote.
He shares similar sentiments with his fellow graduates.
"I hope you can all take advantage of the opportunities ahead of you, grab life with both hands, and dream big!" he wrote.
Love will be attending Washburn University, where he will play basketball and major in either business administration or economics.
"I hope to represent the true meaning of a 'student-athlete,' where academics comes first," he wrote. "After college, I'd either like to pursue starting my own business, going back to the farm, or going to law school."
Love said he would like to be remembered as a hard worker.
