Scott City--Christopher Davis

Published 5/26/2011 in Youth In Excellence

Christopher Davis has attended Scott City USD 466 schools since kindergarten, and recently finished his 12-year career there strong.

With a 4.0 grade-point average, Davis is one of the top students in this year's graduating class at Scott Community High School.

He is a Kansas Honor Scholar, a Kansas Board of Regents Scholar and won the Kansas State University Math and Science Award.

Math is his favorite subject because he "has always been good at it," and he likes putting puzzles together because of the challenge they pose, but found himself bored in some of his English classes, according to a questionnaire he provided The Telegram.

In addition to academics, Davis has a long list of extracurricular and athletic activities he participated in, suggesting a student that successfully juggled schoolwork with additional interests and personal pursuits.

Some of the clubs and sports he has been active in have included 4-H, band, science club, as well as football, cross-country and tennis. He also dabbled in the arts, joining the all-school play, musical, as well as participating in SCHS's band, drumline and percussion ensemble groups. One of his fondest memories was winning state meats judging his sophomore year.

In addition to playing sports and being active in extracurricular activities, Davis also enjoys spending time with his friends. He hopes his peers remember him as more than just a smart guy who did well in classes, but as a well-rounded individual.

He urges his fellow graduates to "stay focused, whether it's in school work or in life," as he prepares to attend the pre-pharmacy program at Kansas State University. Eventually, he plans on continuing his pharmacy studies at the University of Kansas.

Davis also has some advice for incoming high school freshmen:

"Be yourself and have fun because most people don't realize that until senior year when it's almost too late."
