Satanta High School's Kurtis Clawson is or has been president of the student council, a straight "A" student, an athlete, an active member of the Satanta United Methodist Church, treasurer and president of the Satanta chapter of the FFA and still found time to work on the Schrader Ranch owned by his aunt and uncle. On the academic side, Clawson maintained a 4.0 grade-point average, and was a Governor's and Coca-Cola Scholar. And while he was staying at the top of his graduating class, he also played varsity football, basketball and baseball.
What was Clawson's favorite subject in high school?
"History, because I enjoy learning about the past," he replied in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
Clawson did not list a least favorite subject. He likes them all.
All his hobbies involve agriculture. He listed them in questionnaire: showing cattle, livestock, judging, farming and 4-H.
His hobbies merge with the professional organizations in which he belongs: American International Charolais Association, Kansas Junior Charolais Association - south director, Kansas Junior Livestock Association, Kansas Club Calf Association and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Clawson was honored when he was chosen to serve as student council president.
When he isn't busy with school work or activities, he likes to spend time with his friends.
"Be the best you can be," he advised incoming high school freshmen.
For his fellow graduates, his advice was similar.
"Do hard things and go beyond what is expected of you," he wrote
Clawson plans to attend Kansas State University and major in agronomy.
Driven, but thoughtful, is how Clawson would like to be remembered by his classmates.
"I want to be remembered as the guy who cared about others and always worked hard to achieve his goals," he said.
