Satanta--Kelsey Blair

Published 5/26/2011 in Youth In Excellence

Playing basketball is the thing for Satanta High School's Kelsey Blair, who also threw in some volleyball, track and softball, as well as becoming salutatorian of her class.

Her most memorable moment in high school?

"Playing basketball and enjoying the time with my friends and classmates," she wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.

She likes to be active as evidenced by her hobbies.

"Playing basketball, hanging with my family and friends, listening to music and lifeguarding," she said are her favorite hobbies. "I enjoy them because they keep me busy and active."

She started pre-school in Satanta and didn't let up until she was graduated.

Blair is more than an athlete, though. She was academic all-league for four years. She also is a member of National Honor Society, part of the Kansas Honors Program, was the aforementioned class salutatorian and also played in the pep band.

Her favorite class is math.

"I really enjoy it and had an awesome teacher," she wrote. "My least favorite would be government just because I can't seem to get into that class."

Her advice to incoming freshmen at Satanta High School would be: "Live life to the fullest. It flies by! Take advantage of every opportunity that you get."

She told her fellow graduates: "Set your goals high. Always believe in your dreams."

Blair plans to attend Seward County Community College and play basketball. Then, she'll transfer to a four-year university.

"I'm not quite sure what I'm going to major in," she said, "but I want to do something with children or the medical field."

How does she want to be remembered by her classmates?

"Smart, nice, athletic and caring," she said.
