Moscow--Emily White

Published 5/26/2011 in Youth In Excellence

If graduating senior Emily White had one piece of advice to share with her fellow graduates, it would be to not worry about doing things in a perfect manner.

"There is always going to be mistakes made, but where the real perfection comes into play is how you recover from your mistake," White wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram. "Always do your best in everything you do. Because nothing in life is worth it if it's just handed to you."

The Moscow High School graduate has been attending schools in her district since kindergarten and participated in a number of extracurricular activities during high school:

volleyball, basketball, track, softball, cheerleading, scholars bowl, forensics, student council, KAY Club and National Honor Society.

The class valedictorian — White is graduating with a 4.0 grade-point average — also was honored as a Kansas Scholar. She was also a member of the Stevens County Buffalo Booster's 4-H club for the past 12 years.

White said she has fond memories of her high school years.

"My most memorable moment of high school would probably be all the activities I participated in with all my friends. All of my memories are from the extracurricular activities I did in high school. From cheering as a freshman to making state (improvised duet acting) with my partner and friend, Megan Herman."

During high school, White's favorite class was math because she "love(s) solving problems." She plans to attend Emporia State University to pursue an accounting degree, she said.

White said she'd be humbled to be remembered by her classmates for her determination to do well and her efforts to help others succeed. If she could give incoming high school freshman one piece of advice it would be to always work their hardest from the very beginning.

"Don't just settle; know you can do better and that you will," White wrote. "Don't give up on something that's only just beginning. Don't waste what God has given you (and) is giving you."
