As Ashley Goode looks ahead to the future, the graduating senior has a new appreciation for her time at Hugoton High School."As a high schooler, I was constantly looking forward to the future, but now I realize I should have been content in my current position," Goode wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
The 4.0-student stayed busy during her time at HHS, participating in cross country, basketball and track all four years. Goode, who advises current students to "live in the moment," was a member of student council, National Honor Society, HHS band and the Hugoton Church of Christ youth group.
Though it wasn't always the case, the active student-athlete enjoys a challenge, and her favorite courses were English and chemistry.
"Both of these classes were challenging, but in the end I had the opportunity to learn a lot about those two subjects and even learned to enjoy being challenged," she wrote.
Goode attended USD 210 schools throughout her educational career, except for seventh grade, when she attended school in Gilbert, Ariz. While in high school, she received the Presidential Academic Award, Kansas Scholar and was on the Eagle Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters.
Goode will attend Oklahoma Christian University this fall to obtain pre-pharmacy school credits. From there, she plans to attend a pharmacy school.
"I chose pharmacy to have the opportunity to use my love for science every day," she said. "I chose Oklahoma Christian to have the opportunity to grow spiritually while obtaining a college degree."
In her free time, Goode enjoys spending time with her family and playing with her little cousins because "they remind me of the little joys in life."
As she moves on with her education, Goode hopes she is remembered by her peers for her kind personality.
"I hope that I'm remembered as a kind person who would greet anyone in the hallway," she said. "I hope my classmates remember more about my personality than they will remember 'the girl who did her homework.'"
