Looking back on high school, Holcomb graduate Mallory Komlofske says her favorite memory was being on the basketball team."We're like a giant family for six months out of the year, and everyone is always there for you. All of the crazy bus rides, the team dinners, the long practices, the weekend tournaments — even all the (running) — everything is worth all of the friendships and memories you create with your teammates," she wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
Komlofske graduated May 14 as the salutatorian of her class. She was awarded as a Kansas Honor Scholar, served on the Commerce Bank Student Board and held a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average.
Her favorite classes in high school were math.
"I'm good at it and enjoy it," she wrote.
Komlofske said she also enjoyed advanced biology because the class got to dissect cats.
"... And the teacher (Mr. Wilson) was awesome!" she wrote.
Her least favorite class was P.E. because she never felt like working out, and history.
She was involved in KAY Club, FCCLA, FCA, STAT, Big Brothers Big Sisters, volleyball and basketball.
When Komlofske wasn't in the classroom, or studying, she said she liked to hang out with friends.
"I love hanging out with my friends because we always have a good time together, and I love playing basketball because it keeps me active and it's a good way to get away from my problems! And I love being outside in the nice weather!" she wrote.
Komlofske has advice for incoming freshman:
"Don't wish it by because it goes faster than you want it to! Slow down and enjoy every second of it!"
Komlofske also has a message for her fellow graduates as they embark on the next phase of their lives.
"Good luck with everything you do and always push towards your dreams ... anything is achievable if you set your mind to it," she wrote.
She wants to be remembered as loud, outgoing and crazy, she said.
Komlofske plans to attend Wichita State University and major in physical therapy.
"I tore my left ACL when I was a freshman and my right ACL and meniscus during my senior year, and although I dread going to therapy every day, it was definitely something I needed in order to recover. They are helping you heal and regain your strength, and I just enjoy being around and helping people," she said.
