Healy--Lindsey Scammehorn

Published 5/26/2011 in Youth In Excellence

Healy senior and Class of 2011 Valedictorian Lindsey Scammehorn would like best to be remembered by her teachers, coaches and classmates as the girl that wasn't afraid to do what she wanted.

Scammehorn, a three-sport athlete, participated in volleyball, basketball and track for the Healy Eagles, all while maintaining a 3.94 grade-point average.

She also was involved in cheerleading and the Student Volunteer Organization that helped out with various school and community projects.

Scammehorn, who has attended Healy schools since kindergarten, was selected to the Bluejay Invitational All-Academic team, as well as the Western Kansas Liberty League All-League All-Academic Team.

She also was named to the Honor Roll at Healy High School and was a member of National Honor Society.

Scammehorn said her most memorable experience at Healy High School was going to Hawaii for her senior trip, according to a questionnaire she provided to The Telegram.

She looks back at science as being her favorite subject because she said she likes experimenting, but found math, history and English her least favorite subjects because she said they are boring and confusing.

In her spare time, Scammehorn is like many teenagers: She likes sports, sleeping and hanging out with friends. She also likes listening to music and watching movies.

Scammehorn plans to attend Colby Community College and major in business administrative technology.

"I would like to major in this because I like to be around people and don't like to be like everybody else," Scammehorn said.

She also said she would like to coach high school volleyball and basketball when she gets out of college.

But for now, Scammehorn urges underclassmen to remember that what they do now matters for their future.

"What happens in high school will follow you, so have fun but be serious about it and don't make enemies," Scammehorn said.

Scammehorn also would like her fellow graduates to know that they should do their best in whatever it is they decide to do in their lives.
