Dighton--Nicole Beesley

Published 5/26/2011 in Youth In Excellence

Dighton High School graduating senior Nicole Beesley wants to be remembered by her fellow graduates as the person they could count on for help. And maybe a word or two of advice, too.

"In everything you do, reach for the moon. And if you fall short, you will always land on a star," Beesley wrote in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram, quoting a well-known aphorism.

The Dighton senior has attended Dighton schools for four and a half years and is graduating this spring with a 3.98 grade-point. The Kansas State scholar earned many honors, including high honor roll, Western Kansas Liberty League Academic Team, Board of Regents Scholar, and was an honor graduate.

Her favorite class was advanced biology because she loves to learn about the human body, she said. Physics was her least favorite class.

"I had a lot of fun and learned a lot, but it goes against all the laws of gravity and forces you were previously taught and was hard," she wrote.

During her high school years, Beesley also participated in or was a member of volleyball, track, basketball, forensics, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, band, choir, National Honor Society, Scholars Bowl, and was a student council member.

The graduating senior likes to read and write.

"When you read, you can get away from everything and enter a whole new world," Beesley wrote. "Writing allows you to express yourself and your feelings in so many different ways."

For incoming freshman, Beesley said it's important to remember that high school is "no walk in the park." They have to work hard to stay on top, she said.

The graduating senior plans to attend Fort Hays State University in the fall to major in pediatric nursing and to advance her career, too.

"I've always loved kids and have a soft spot for them," she wrote. "I want to be able to help them in any way possible."
