THE Garden City Telegram
E9
By STEVE DYER, President

T
here is so much to offer in Garden
City when it comes to holiday shopping.
We are very blessed to have such a great
community with a variety of options.
Instead of the twelve days of Christmas,
we will review the twelve reasons to Shop
in Garden City.
12
Parking.
The best part of parking in
Garden City is that it’s free. You will be
able to park close to the front door, not
fight for great spots and park there at no
cost. Try to do that in the big city.
11
Personal Service.
When you fre-
quent a Garden City business it is likely
that you will know the owner or manager
of the business and they will know you.
Our local business owners and managers
live in your neighborhood, attend your
church and attend your children’s events.
It feels good to do business with your
neighbors and friends.
10
Variety.
Downtown Garden City and
other areas of town provide the small
town feel of great craft shops, sporting
goods retailers, men’s and women’s cloth-
ing and much more. If you are looking for
the diverse selection of inventory from
large national chains, we have that also
with retailers at the strip mall and around
the bypass on the east side of town.
9
Traffic.
Although we can see an
increase of traffic around the holiday sea-
son in town, it is not near the congestion
you will experience in larger cities. Less
traffic translates into saving time, money
and frustration.
8
Ease of Exchanges and Returns.
Frustration can also run high when try-
ing to exchange or return an item that
doesn’t fit or isn’t the right color or style.
Buying those items locally will make it
much easier to exchange the item for the
correct one and also saves time if the
item would need to be mailed out from an
online purchase.
7
Supporting Local Businesses.
Our local businesses create local jobs, pay
local taxes and support local teams and
organizations. Online companies do not.
If you can find it local, buy it local. In
most cases it is available at or near the
same price as the online stores and sup-
ports the local economy. I have yet to see
an online company banner hanging at the
High School football stadium.
6
Unique Gifts.
Small, local businesses
have access to unique local products that
make great gifts for that special someone
in your life. Another reason to support
our local businesses!
5
Restaurants.
One part of the shop-
ping experience is eating out. No town
in Kansas has the variety and quality
of restaurants as Garden City. From all
varieties of Mexican, Asian, American,
Barbeque and Italian, you can find any-
thing that your heart desires.
4
Hotels.
The only thing better than one
day shopping in Garden City is two days
shopping in Garden City. Sandwich those
two days by staying in one of our great
hotels. Rest comfortably after a long day
of shopping and be rejuvenated for the
second day.
3
Saving Time.
If you choose to go out
of town to shop you are looking at six to
ten plus hours of driving. That is a lot of
shopping time wasted on sitting in a car.
Take that time to shop Garden City and
save time for family or relaxation.
2
Saving Money.
This is another nega-
tive of shopping out of town. Time really
is money and spending all of that time
traveling costs. There is also the expense
of gas, wear and tear on your vehicle and
other expenses incurred when traveling.
1
Chamber Gift Certificates.
They
can be used at over 100 Chamber member
businesses, offered in denominations of
10, 25, 50 and 100 dollar values and can be
purchased at the Chamber office. They
are the perfect gift for family, friends or
co-workers.
S
o when you are shopping this holiday
season, please remember there are at least
twelve reasons why shopping Garden City
is the right choice. Save time and money,
enjoy the free parking and great selection,
and support local businesses.
