St. Mary's Wilcox named KCAC player of the year

Former Holcomb standout Jordan Wilcox has been named the player of the year by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference during his senior season at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth.
Wilcox, a 5-11 guard and a 2009 Telegram All-Area performer, has led the Spires to a 22-7 overall record, 16-2 in the KCAC and a conference title, and a top 25 ranking in the NAIA polls. He formerly played at Dodge City Community College.
The ex-Longhorn star averaged 14.5 points per game while shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range. He was an 88.9 percent free throw shooter. Wilcox also averaged 2.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.4 steals for the Spires. He had a season-high of 31 points. He has started all 29 games for the Spires.
Another of Wilcox’ teammates, 6-7 Chip Schneider, a former Greeley County player and the 2009 Telegram Player of the Year, was named to the KCAC third team. Schneider, also a senior, averaged 11.2 points and 6 rebounds for the championship Spires. Schneider originally played at Bethel College before transferring to Saint Mary.
Those two also had another former Holcomb player on its roster in 6-6 senior Matt Heydman. Heydman averaged 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds during his final year.
The Spires open their KCAC postseason tournament on Friday.
