Lakin boys, Satanta girls notch HPL play-in victories at Heights

Lakin boys 58, Syracuse 48
The Lakin Broncs used a 21-13 fourth quarter run to shake off a stubborn Syracuse squad, 58-48, on Monday in a Hi-Plains League Tournament play-in game at Southwestern Heights.
Caleb Seeger led Lakin with 21 points. Dalton Shalberg added 12 for the Broncs as they led 23-18 at halftime but only led by two points after the third quarter.
Jacob Barnes and Dexter English led Syracuse with 12 points apiece as Wayne York also chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Lakin moves on to face top-seeded Meade today at 3 p.m. at Southwestern Heights. Syracuse will drop to consolation play and will face Pawnee Heights at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Garden City Community College.

Satanta girls 47, Syracuse 40
The Satanta Lady Indians used a 12-5 first quarter advantage to lead early and hold off Syracuse for a 47-40 win over the Lady Bulldogs in a Hi-Plains League play-in game on Monday at Southwestern Heights.
Valerie and Vanessa Caro led all players in the game for Satanta with 20 and 13 points, respectively.
Kiah Rash led Syracuse with 11 points, followed by Kassie Baeza with 10 points.
Satanta moves on to face No. 1 seed Cimarron at 3:30 p.m. today at Southwestern Heights. Syracuse will move to consolation play and will face Pawnee Heights at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Garden City Community College.

Colby girls 46, Ulysses 27
At Ulysses, the visiting Lady Eagles outscored Ulysses 38-19 in the first three periods of the game to pull away for a 46-27 win over the Lady Tigers on Monday.
Haileigh Shull led Colby with 15 points, followed by Kenzie Curry with 14. Colby led 13-9 after the first period and 28-14 at halftime.
Jennifer Calderwood led Ulysses with eight points.

Colby boys 41, Ulysses 40
Colby's Eagles rallied from a five-point deficit in the final quarter on Monday night to stun the Ulysses Tigers, 41-40, in a Great West Activities Conference battle.
It was the Eagles' first win and came against a Ulysses team that had just knocked off Holcomb on Friday night.
Colby led after one quarter, 11-10, only to have the Tigers come back to take a 21-19 halftime advantage. In a low-scoring third quarter, Ulysses took a 30-25 lead heading to the final eight minutes. But the Eagles came through with a 16-10 surge.
Todd Kane was the lone double-figure scorer for the Eagles, finishing with 16 points. Nathan Medina's 11 points were high for Ulysses.
