Cimarron girls open with win at Ulysses

The Cimarron Lady Bluejays exploded for 48 first-half points on Friday night en route to a 64-40 victory on Friday night over the Ulysses Lady Tigers in a game played at Ulysses.

Junior guard Ashtynn Burns scored a career-high 25 points to pace three Lady 'Jays in double figures in the team's season-opening victory.

Morgan Ediger and Eva Koopman added 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Morgan Price took scoring honors for the Lady Tigers with 13 points.

After that big first half, in which Cimarron scored 23 and 25 points in each of those two quarters, they scored 16 points and then substituted liberally for the final quarter. Cimarron finished with a 23-9 first quarter lead and were ahead 48-22 at halftime. The Lady Jays were 18-of-23 from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers struggled at the charity stripe, making just 8-of-20.

Oakley boys 61, Wichita County 50

At Oakley, the Wichita County Indians were outscored 15-5 in the third quarter allowing Oakley to escape with a 61-50 win on Friday.

Oakley had a big performance from Darius Herl as he scored 19 points. Austin Balman and Stephen Llewellyn also had big games for the Plainsmen with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Braydon Hubert also was in double figures for Oakley with 10 points.

Wichita County's Jantz Budde led all players in the game with 21 points. Alberto Gallegos also had a big game for the Indians with 15 points while Bryce Nickelson also chipped in with 12 points in Wichita County's loss.
