GCHS bowlers find more disappointment in Dodge

For the second time in three days, the Garden City High School girls and boys bowling teams trekked to Dodge City for a meet at Spare Tyme Lanes with the host Red Demons.

And for the second time, the teams struggled on the lanes.

In the seven-point match, both the Buffaloes' girls and boys lost to the Red Demons, with the girls finishing 2-5 while the boys struggled even more, going winless in the match.

"Needless to say, it was not a pretty day," said Garden City coach Kip Nichols. "There wasn't as much oil on the lanes as there was on Tuesday, but we still didn't make the adjustments that were needed. The same ones I had to talk to on Tuesday, were the same ones I had to talk to today (Thursday). It was the insanity rules again today."

On the girls side, senior Carey Watters led the way with a 516 series (130-176-208). Sarah Ramsey was next at 510 (185-156-167) and Alexa Hemmert rolled a 504 (157-149-207). Then, last year's Class 6A state runnerup, Rikkie Hemmert, struggled with a season low 477 (147-164-166). Jennifer St. Clair had a 436 (112-144-180) and Victoria Newell had a 435 (146-165-124).

Their three-game totals compared to Dodge City were 635 to 642, 661 to 701 and then winning a point, 762-726. In the Baker format (five bowlers roll two frames each), it was Garden posting a 182 to 141 win then falling to Dodge City, 166 to 226 and 147 to 172.

On the boys side, the Buffaloes had a rough day, losing all seven points.

In the three-game series competition, Jarett Landgraf led the way with a 624 series (202-185-237), Juan Ramirez Jr. a 601 (197-232-172), Skylar Connor a 569 (166-190-213), Avery Turner a 497 (171-177-149), Theron Kells a 491 (170-149-172) and Kieran Henderson a 489 (164-170-155).

In their Baker format, the GCHS boys lost 169 to 199, 200 to 214 and 169 to 186.

"I don't believe either team went in there with the attitude of intensity and being tenacious," Nichols said.

Nichols did say that the junior varsity girls went 7-0 against their Dodge counterparts.

The bowling teams are both idle until Thursday when they travel to Great Bend for another Western Athletic Conference match.

New Coach Needed?

What kind of coach talks about their Team that way. This is bowling!! Your not a Pro, nor are they. They are kids who do this for fun. No such thing as a bad kid, only a bad coach. That's where the insanity lies.
