Four new members will be inducted in April to the Garden City Community College Athletic Hall of Fame, the school announced Monday.

Shelly Meier, Frank Murphy, Jason Roach and Todd Tichenor will be inducted during a dinner and ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. April 27, in the main gym of the Perryman Athletic Complex.

The inductees each found success in a different sport, and as a group, accounted for multiple national honors.

Meier competed on the rodeo and women's basketball teams from 1990-92, and was the 1992 Central Plains Region all-around champion in rodeo. She went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State and take the 1993 national all-around title. Meier served as head rodeo coach at GCCC from 1999-2003.

Murphy helped the Busters football team to a national runner-up finish in 1997, while being named a first-team NJCAA All-American and national player of the year as a running back. Murphy went on to attend Kansas State, and was drafted and played six seasons in the NFL.

Roach wrestled at Garden City from 1988-90, and was a two-time national champion. He was the NJCAA wrestler of the year in 1989 after finishing the season with a 45-1 record. Roach went on to attend Cornell University, earning Ivy League wrestler of the year honors.

Tichenor was a 1995 graduate of Garden City High School, and played baseball for GCCC. He went on to a career in officiating football, basketball and baseball, and is now a Major League Baseball umpire. Tichenor graduated from the Jim Evans Academy of Umpiring in Orlando, Fla., and umpired in the minor leagues before being upgraded to a Major League fill-in umpire, and in 2012, being offered a full-time contract. He and his family live in Holcomb.

The ceremony and banquet are open to the public, and reservations should be made by April 17. Tickets are $25, and reservations should be made with Ashley Rutti in the GCCC athletic department at 620-276-9606.

This will bring to 27 the number of inductees into the HOF, which started in 1993. Inductees can come from athletes or from people who have contributed to the benefit of Broncbuster athletics through the years.
