Two area track and field and cross country coaches were honored by the Kansas Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association.

Mike Horton, the cross country coach at Stanton County High School in Johnson city, was named the 2012 Class 2A boys coach of the year, while Denis Hornung, the track and field coach at Cimarron High School, was recognized as the Class 3A girls coach of the year.

Those two were honored, as was earlier announced winner Krista Linenberger of Garden City High School, who was named the Class 6A girls cross country coach of the year.

Horton guided the Trojans' boys team to a second-place finish at the 2012 state 2A meet in Wamego.

The Trojans had two runners — Raul Pantoja (seventh) and Jacob Cron (19th) finish in the top 20 medal race for the boys cross country team.

The Lady Bluejays took fourth in Class 3A at the 2012 state track meet, getting medal finishes from Lindsay Wehkamp and Eva Koopman in the high jump/long jump, along with Koopman in the 100-meter hurdles; Morgan Ediger in the 300-meter hurdles; and Kari Blattner in the 1,600-meter run.
