Sublette 64, Elkhart 35

Mercedes Martinez scored 20 points to lead the Sublette Larks to a 64-35 win over Elkhart in the third-place game of the Hi-Plains League Tournament Saturday.

Martinez scored all but one of her points in the first half, when she hit a trio of 3-pointers and made 6-of-7 free throws as Sublette mounted a 48-18 lead.

Fifth-place game

Syracuse 52, Stanton County 44

The Syracuse girls basketball team saved the best for last.

In the fifth-place game of the Hi-Plains League tournament, the Bulldogs scored 24 fourth-quarter points to rally from a deficit to Stanton County and win 52-44.

It was the Colemans of Alexis and Olivia who provided the spark, with Olivia Coleman scoring 10 of her team-high 15 points in the final period, including a trio of 3-pointers in the fourth. Alexis Coleman scored seven of her 14 points in the final period.

Stanton County led 11-8 after the first period, 22-19 at halftime and 30-28 entering the fourth quarter, before losing the advantage and the game. The Trojans were led Chloe Chenoweth’s 16 points and Rylie Cook had 12.

Stanton County 73, Lakin 47

With Lakin’s best scorer, Henry Chou, still battling injury, the Broncs were no match for Stanton County in Saturday’s third-place game of the Hi-Plains League tournament.

The Trojans cruised to a 73-47 blowout win, scoring 46 points in the first half to take a 21-point lead into the second half. The lead just grew from there. Creed Puyear led the way with 24 points for the Trojans, while Michael Aleman added 13.

Lakin’s Servando Gonzalez led with 10 points.

Fifth-place game

Syracuse 52, SW Heights 47

Kaine Chavez-Buddy scored 19 points and Reece Hart had 12 to lead the Syracuse boys basketball team to a 52-47 win over Southwestern Heights in the fifth-place game of the Hi-Plains League Tournament Saturday.

Syracuse trailed 39-38 entering the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs out-scored Heights 14-8 in the final period to get the win.

Heights was led by Jaziel Martinez’s 13 points.
