Lakin 75, Burlington 54

The Lakin Broncs, behind Henry Chou’s 31 points, got past the Burlington Cougars in the first round of the Topside Tournament in Goodland Thursday night.

Both teams came out swinging, scoring 15 points in the opening quarter, taking a tied game into the second half. Lakin pulled away in the second quarter, however, scoring 23 points while holding the Cougars to eight.

While the Bronc offense was hitting on all cylinders, the defense is what ultimately made the difference, forcing Burlington to turnover the ball 30 times and had the Cougars only shot 38% from the field. Chou, who led all scorers, shot 70 percent from the field (12 of 17) and was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.

Chou was not the only Bronc to score double digits as Juan Banuelos and Dominick Daniels both scored 11 to help Lakin secure its second win of the year.
