Satanta Indians

Returning starters: 4

Satanta will look to build on its team from last year as the Indians return four starters from last season. Seniors Brooke Abernathy, Tanna Anderson and Lizete Olivas, and one junior, Ava Howie, will look to take the next step for the Indians as they head into head coach Janie Lutz’ seventh year at Satanta.

Olivas and Howie both averaged 7.5 points per game last season, while Olivas also led the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Coach Lutz looks forward to the season as the Indians will have an advantage on the inside with their size and will be competitive with the experience her girls will bring into this season.

 

Syracuse Bulldogs

Class: 2A

League: Hi-Plains

Coach: Kendra Flyer

2017-18 record: 13-10

Returning starters: 4

First year Bulldog head coach Kendra Flyer will inherit a Syracuse team that will bring back four starters who are trying to build on a 13-10 record from last season.

Three of the four returnings starters are seniors as Alexis Coleman, Riley Baker and Olivia Coleman will look to take Syracuse past the second round of regionals, which is where their season ended last season.

The lone underclass returning starter is junior Carly Kullot.

Coach Flyer said the Bulldogs' focus for the offseason has been to have good pressure defense and aggressive offense.

 

Moscow Wildcats

Class: 1A

League: Santa FeTrail

Coach: Stu Moore

2017-18 record: 9-14

Returning starters: 2

Returning starters, senior Morgan Lahey and junior Yamilet Rojo, will look to lead the Wildcats into the 2018-19 season.

Lahey averaged 3.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds, while Rojo averaged 3.3 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Coach Moore said that although his team might be young, they are a cohesive unit that will mature quickly. He also added that his team will learn how to compete hard each game, which will play a key in how successful they are this season.

 

Cimarron Bluejays

Class: 3A

League: Hi-Plains

Coach: Eli Applegate

2017-18 record: 13-9

Returning starters: 3

The Blujays, with first-year head coach Eli Applegate, will look to build on a 13-9 record from last season.

Returning starters, seniors Taylor Jantz, Cameron Bartlett and junior Clara Bartlett, are leading an experienced team this season that is competing in a competitive Hi-Plains League.

Seniors Katelyn Dyke, Olivia Mcfadden and Sydney Moler will also look to contribute to the team.

Coach Applegate says his team has worked extremely hard this offseason and will look to take advantage of its experience and leadership to go far in the postseason.

 

Meade Buffaloes

Class: 2A

League: Hi-Plains

Coach: Tyler Flavin

2017-18 record: 17-5

Returning starters: 4

The Meade Buffaloes return a plethora of experience from a season ago, as they return four senior starters.

Seniors Katey Wilhelm, Shiane Wondra, Cali Keith and Liberty Luetters, who combined for 31 points per game, are looking to make a deep run in the postseason under second-year coach Tyler Flavin.

Flavin will look to a strong senior nucleus that will provide depth and experience for the Buffaloes.

Some of that experience will come from three other seniors, Brooke Keith, Hayden Bachman and Bristol Lewis, who Flavin expects to play a big part in the upcoming season.

 

Stanton County Trojans

Class: 2A

League: Hi-Plains

Coach: Trevor Siebert

2017-18 record: 8-12

Returning starters: 5

Although the Stanton County Trojans did not have a winning record last season, coach Siebert is hoping that his five, underclass returning starters will bring experience and energy to a young Trojan team.

Leading scorer junior Rylie Cook, who averaged 11 points per game last season, and junior Chloe Chenoweth will be the most experienced players on a young team.

Coach Siebert hopes that his girls will play with an up-tempo offense with high intensity, and that it will translate to success for his young, yet experienced team.

 

Sublette Larks

Class: 15-7

League: Hi-Plains

Coach: Wayne Lee

2017-18 record: 15-7

Returning starters: 5

Senior Mia Kells and the Sublette Larks are heading into the 2018-19 season with all five returning starters from last season, and first-year head coach Wayne Lee will look to build on a 15-7 record.

Kells, who led the team in all major categories — 14.2 points per game, 10 rebounds and 3.2 blocks — will be joined by senior teammates Shelby Thornton and Mercedes Martinez.

Coach Lee is excited about the team’s depth and the experience the girls have playing with each other.

Lee also expressed how the girls' goal is to build on the 15-7 record and go deeper into the postseason this year.

 

Ulysses Tigers

Class: 4A

League: GWAC

Coach: Tim Hofferber

2017-18 record: 14-8

Returning starters: 5

After reaching the sub-state championship game last season, the Ulysses Tigers and second-year head coach Tim Hofferber are hoping their 2018-19 season ends with a trip to the state tournament.

The Tigers will be returning six seniors who had starting experience and averaged 36.1 points per game.

Coach Hofferber knows that the experience of his senior team will play a major factor if they can get into the state tournament this season.
