Garden City High School’s tennis squad left Dodge City on Tuesday, the Buffaloes’ season-opening tournament, with a tournament title. The Buffs racked up a couple of first-place finishes, a second and a fourth.

“Our first day, and finally get to beat up on somebody besides ourselves,” head coach Rod Robinson said after the tournament win. “Both doubles teams dominated their divisions pretty much. Overall, they worked well together playing together for the first time really ever.”

The pair of duos teams combined for an 8-0 day, with the No. 1 doubles team of Carson Linenberger and Sage Riggs downing Cimarron, 6-1, and Great Bend, 6-4, in pool play. Then, Riggs and Linenberger beat Hays, 6-3 and Dodge City, 6-2.

In No. 2 Doubles, Carole Gian and Hannah Kipp also beat Cimarron, 6-2, and then Great bend, 6-4, in pool play, before besting Dodge City, 6-1, and Hays, 6-4, in bracket play to take the medal.

At No. 1 singles, Taryn Tabor won a pair of 6-3 matches in pool play, and then won her first bracket play match at 6-5, before falling in the final, 6-1, to Dodge City’s Mariana Duque.

Erasay Alcanter won her pool in the No. 2 doubles division, but lost both of her bracket matches to take fourth.

UPDATE: A previous version of this story incorrectly spelled Carson Linenberger's name.
