The Garden City Buffaloes cross country teams ran their second meet of the season Thursday night at the Swather Invitational in Hesston.

The boys secured a third-place finish, after the girls' team finished in sixth. Junior Ethan Fisher was the top finisher for the Buffs on the boys' side, with a time of 17:30.9. On the girls' side, senior Taylor Savolt was the best Buffalo finish with a time of 22:07.0.

“I think we did OK today, considering this was the first 5K we’ve ran this season,” head coach Krista Linenberger said.”

Last week’s run was shortened to a 4K due to the heat.

“I think we left the meet in pretty good spirits, since a lot of our kids will leave today knowing what they have to work on to get better," Linenberger said. "They'll take that with them and make progress for the next race.”

The Buffs’ next meet will be at the Hays Invitational next Thursday. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
