The Garden City Buffaloes girls golf team finished their second consecutive tournament in third place, with a team score of 399, Thursday night at the Mariah HIlls Golf Course in Dodge City.
The overall tournament winner was a Buffalo as junior ALyssa McMillen topped the tournament with a score of 81.
“I think the team did good for the most part, especially since it was misting for most of the day," head coach Trent Specht said.
Although happy with the performance, Specht thought the short game around the green and putting cost them a second place finish.
“We struggled with putting today," he said. "It's something we need to work on. If we would have had a better short game, I know we could have finished in second."
After being disqualified for using an Apple iWatch on the course last week, Elena Lemke bounced back and shot a 92 as the second low round for the Buffs.
“(McMillen) did great,” said Specht. “She kind of had an inconsistent day after a good start, hit some rough patches in the middle, but righted the ship at the end and got the win.
“If she can put that together for 18 holes, she's going to have a good season.”
The Buffs will look to defend home course advantage as the competition comes to Garden City Monday at Buffalo Dunes. Tee off is set for 1 p.m.
