Scott City 35, Hugoton 0

It only took three quarters for the Scott City Beaver (1-0) to get their first win of the season, beating the Hugoton Eagles, 35-0, in a game that was called with 1:59 left in the third quarter due to lightning.

Scott City’s running back Wyatt Hayes had three touchdowns on the ground, and finished with 222 yards on 19 carries. Beaver quarterback connected with Marshal Faurot on a 12-yard pass to give him his first throwing touchdown of the season.

The Syracuse Bulldogs opened their 2018 season with a 20-6 victory on the road over Southwestern Heights in Plains.

Syracuse, having dropped to Class 1A, got three touchdowns from three different players.

Payson Hakins scored in the second period while Reece Hart and Damian Ramirez added TDs in the third. Heights scored its lone TD in the second quarter.

Stanton Co. 42, Beaver, Okla. 0

Sam Davidson scored three touchdowns and Gio Callejas added two TDs, all on the ground, to provide the Stanton County Trojans a 42-0 romp in welcoming back Bret Kendrick as the head coach after several years of being away from the sidelines.

The Trojans three first-quarter touchdowns came on runs of 25 and 6 from Davidson and a 6-yader from Callejas.

In the third quarter, three more tallies were registered with Davidson scoring from 43 yards out, Callejas on a 32-yarder and Sam Canny on a 3-yard run.

The Trojans finished with 215 rushing yards on just 19 attempts.
