The 7th annual Maggie Olson Memorial sand volleyball tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at the Lakin Recreation Complex, two miles north of Lakin on Highway 25.
The tournament will feature 32 teams competing in pool play with 16 teams qualifying to play in a double-elimination bracket format.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Friday with local music performer Clay Davenport singing the National Anthem.
Competition will continue to midnight Friday and re-start at 8 a.m. Saturday. There will be live entertainment Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m. with the Fulton Street Band, to be followed at 9 p.m. with the Clay Davenport Band. Admission is free and a freewill donation will be available for the band.
Sunday's final day will begin at approximately 9 a.m. with the finals to be played late afternoon, weather permitting.
The volleyball tournament is a fund-raiser for the Maggie's Mission, Inc., a 501(c3) non-profit organization established in memory of Maggie Olson, a Lakin High School student who died in an automobile accident in March of 2012.
Since the non-profit was organized, approximately $115,000 has been raised and approximately $14,000 has been awarded in scholarships to local students.
Donations may be mailed to Maggie's Mission, Inc., P.O. Box 191, Lakin, KS, 67860. Contributions are tax deductible.
