The struggles for the Garden City Buffaloes baseball team continued on Saturday in the final day of the Emporia Spartan Round Ball Classic.

The Buffs, who had dropped a 5-3 decision on Friday to host Emporia, this time were blanked 12-0 in a five-inning, run-rule game at Soden Grove Park.

Garden's offense managed just two hits off Central pitching, singles by Cooper Thayer and Jayden Escamilla. The Buffs had only four runners stranded in the abbreviated game.

Carson Scheeter absorbed the pitching loss after going just three innings, giving up eight hits and nine runs, of which six were earned. He didn't record a strikeout, but walked five batters. Reliever Elier Arreola pitched the final inning, giving up three runs, striking out one and walking two.

The Buffs' defense, which has had troubles most of the season, once again hurt their cause by committing four miscues.

The Buffs will finish their Western Athletic Conference schedule on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. single game at Liberal. On Thursday, they will close out their regular season by hosting Wichita West in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Clint Lightner Stadium.

Class 6A regional tournament action will begin the week of May 14, with the 16 teams in the western half of Kansas being seeded based upon season records. Currently, the Buffs are sitting in the 11th seeded spot with a 4-13 record.
