The Garden City High School boys golf team finished second on Monday at the next to last Western Athletic Conference tournament in Great Bend.

The Buffs shot a 345 for their four counting scores, well back of winner Hays' 330, but scores soared as did the wind velocity, which reached as high as 50mph.

"The kids played really good on a difficult day," said GCHS coach Jacob Waller. "The wind was ferocious."

The low scores for the Buffs came from Mason Shaddix and Aaron Schafer with 84s at the Great Bend Petroleum Club layout.

The Buffs will be right back on the course Tuesday with an 8 a.m. tee off at Hesston Golf Course and then 2:30 p.m. at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson in the 36-hole tournament.

The Buffs were without No. 1 player Sion Audrain on Monday and also will be without him on Tuesday as he is sitting out the two tournaments for a violation of school and team policy.

Audrain will be back in the Buffs lineup on Thursday for Junction City.
