The Garden City High School boys swimming team had a home dual with Liberal on Thursday at the Garden City Family YMCA pool, but team scores were not tabulated.
“Overall, the team swam well,” first-year coach Brian Watkins said. “There was not much time between events, and our kids looked sluggish in the second half of the meet.”
Will Keller had the top marks of the day, breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.43. Earlier, he had posted a time of 25.78 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Top marks for the Buffs in individual events came from Dominic Combs in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.77), Nathaniel Hubbard in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.00), Treyton Arwine in the 500-yard freestyle (6:39.97), Keller’s two marks in the freestyle sprints, Peter Hall in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.05), Brody Hoff in the 200-yard individual medley (2:44.26) and Arwine in the 200-yard freestyle (2:27.02).
The Buffs will travel to Manhattan Friday for a late afternoon start to that meet.
