Daz Johnson had 13 points off the bench and four other Garden City Community College women’s basketball players had eight or more as the Broncbusters rolled to a 64-43 win over Allen County on Saturday evening in Iola.

The Busters led 34-21 at the half, and cruised in the second half, scoring 0.90 points per possession for the game, while Allen County managed just 0.63.

The win improved the Busters 12-9 overall and 9-8 in the conference.  They are tied for seventh with Barton, which has lost three consecutive games. Allen County drops to 6-15 and 4-13, 11th in the KJCCC.

The win also completed a season sweep of Allen County for the Busters, who shot 45.2 percent from the field, which matched the mark they set against Allen County on Nov. 21 in Garden City. It’s also the Busters’ second-best mark in Jayhawk Conference play and third-best overal this seasonl.

Johnson had an efficient night, going 4 for 10 from the field and five of seven from the free-throw line. She also hauled in five rebounds. Jada Washington had nine points on 4-of-13 shooting, but added in four rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Shakendra Tilley added nine points for Garden City and a team-high six rebounds, and Kala Jones had eight points on a perfect four-for-four effort. Kelcy McHenry had eight points and four boards.

The Red Devils did not have a single scorer in double digits, hitting just 32.1 percent of their shots and getting to the free-throw line just six times, making three.

The Busters return home for a quick, two-game stand that begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, when they host Independence, which is tied with two other teams for second in the KJCCC.
