For the second consecutive game, the Garden City Community College men’s basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to get a win, the latest coming in an 80-68 win over Allen County on Saturday evening in Iola.

The Broncbusters trailed 38-34 at the break, but then exploded for a 46-30 second half to get the win, which improved the Busters to 15-6 overall and 11-6 in the KJCCC, in which they sit alone in fourth place, four games behind first-place Barton and two games behind both Coffeville and Hutchinson. Garden City — completing the season sweep of Allen County — is one game in front of Colby and Cowley in the standings.

The Busters had four players in double-digit scoring, led by Kendale Hampton’s 18 on seven-of-16 shooting. Jamir Thomas had 17 points and 14 rebounds — his fifth of the season — and Pierre Johnson had 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists.

Russhard Cruickshank added 12 points.

The Red Devils — who fell to 6-15 overall and into last place in the KJCCC at 4-13 — were led by Tyler Williams’ game-high 22 points on seven-of-18 shooting. Tevin Townsend had 12 points off the bench.

Garden City dominated the glass, 49-32, and the points per possession, scoring 1.16 ppp to Allen County’s 0.94.

The Busters host Independence, which is tied for seventh in the KJCCC, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Dodge City, tied for 10th place, on Saturday.
