Garden City High School's first-year boys swimming team returned to the pool Thursday after the holiday break in a double-dual at Great Bend.
The Buffs lost to both host Great Bend, 120-48 and to Campus 124-44, in their first event since early December.
"With two weeks off from school and practice, I had no idea what we would do at our first meet," said coach Brian Watkins. "It was great to see our team set personal records in almost every event and really go out and compete."
Junior Aaron Schafer produced the top finishes individually with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.17) and a third-place in the 100-yard freestyle (59.11). Another junior, Will Keller, had a pair of fourths in the 50-yard freestyle (25.95) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.29).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Seth Clower, Schafer, Keller and Jasper Partin took third with a time of 2:07.22.
"I feel really good about the rest of the season and it seems like we are really beginning to find the flow in the pool," Watkins said.
The Buffs swimmers will return to the pool on Jan. 13 when they travel to Wichita West.
