Syracuse 65, Granada (Colo.) 19

Buddy Chavez scored 11 points in the first quarter and Will Kullot had eight as the Syracuse Bulldogs ran out to a 28-0 lead after eight minutes, and cruised to a 65-19 win on Tuesday night.

The win came in the host Bulldogs’ opener of the Border War tournament. Chavez finished with 13 points and Kullot had 12, while 10 other Bulldogs scored points in the rout.

Syracuse’s next opponent is Walsh, Colo., at 7 p.m.

Holly (Colo.) 56, Greeley County 53

Thatcher Lackey had 18 points and Jaly Yanez and Jose Chavez chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, but the Jackrabbits fell to Holly, Colo., in Tuesday night’s opener of the Border War tournament in Syracuse.

The Jackrabbits let a 41-38 lead after three quarters slip away in the loss. They play McClave (Colo.) at 4 p.m. Friday for their next action.

Stanton County 67, Walsh (Colo.) 32

Francisco Corrales led the Stanton County Trojans with 14 points in Tuesday night’s 67-32 rout of Walsh, Colo., to open the Border War tournament in Syracuse.

The Trojans led 21-3 after the first period, and cruised from there, with 10 players scoring at least two points. Edgar Garcia had 12 points and Victor Molina added 10.

Stanton County’s next action comes at 4 p.m. Friday vs. Granada, Colo.

McClave (Colo.) 44, Elkhart 42

The Elkhart Wildcats ended up on the wrong end of a back-and-forth game against McClave, Colo., on Tuesday night in Syracuse.

Opening the Border War tournament, the Wildcats were tied at 33 with McClave entering the final period, but were two points short of sending it to overtime, falling 44-42. Lane Whisennand led the Wildcats with 13 points and Elian Prieto had 11.

Elkhart’s next game is 7 p.m. Friday against Holly, Colo.


Syracuse 59, Granada (Colo.) 27

The Syracuse Bulldogs defeated the Granada, Colo., Bobcats, 59-27, during the first day of the Border War tournament in Syracuse Tuesday night. After a close first quarter, Syracuse opened up the game after a 22-point second quarter.

Bulldog Olivia Coleman, who led all scorers with 11 points, scored nine points in the second quarter, all of which came from behind the three-point line.

The Bulldogs outscored the Bobcats 27-3 from behind the arc. Syracuse will face Walsh, Colo., in the second round of the Border War on Friday.

Holly (Colo.) 67, Greeley County 57

The Holly, Colo., Wildcats won a game for the state of Colorado during the annual Border War tournament Tuesday night, defeating the Greeley County JackRabbits, 67-57, in Syracuse.

Senior Hannah Brandl led all scorers in a losing effort with 25 points. The rest of the Jackrabbits scored a combined 32 points. Josie Cook from Holly followed closely with 22 points.

Greeley County will continue the tournament Friday night, when they face the McClave, Colo., Cardinals.

Stanton County 63, Walsh (Colo.) 35

The Stanton County Trojans were the first Kansas team to win on the girls side of the Border War as they defeated the Walsh, Colo., Eagles, 63-35, Tuesday night in Syracuse.

Freshman Kenia Cario has already made an impact on the Trojans as she and Walsh’s Dakota Cook led all scorers with 15 points. Sophomore Rylie Cook also contributed 14 points for Stanton County.

The Trojans will try to get their second win of the tournament Friday night as they take on the Granada, Colo., Bobcats.

McClave (Colo.) 42, Elkhart 31

The McClave, Colo., Cardinals got the day started off right for the state of Colorado Tuesday afternoon, beating the Elkhart Wildcats, 42-31, in Syracuse in the first game of the Border War tournament.

Cardinal Alexus Gomez lead all scorers with 16, while senior Jessica Forbes led the Wildcats with 12 points.

The Wildcats will try to add a win for the state of Kansas when they face the Holly Wildcats Friday night in Syracuse.
