For the first time since 2012, the Garden City Community College volleyball team garnered three All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College West selections.

Sophomores Bailey Martinez and Shaney Tiumalu were picked to the conference’s second team, while freshman Harlee Davis was an honorable mention.

The trio led the Busters to the program’s most wins and deepest postseason run since 2012. From her libero position, Martinez led the conference in digs (622), fifth in the NJCAA. Tiumalu, returning as an outside hitter from a devastating knee injury that cost her the 2016 season, was fifth in the conference in kills with 332, the 32nd most in the NJCAA.

Davis, at middle blocker, contributed all over, picking up 56 blocks and 146 kills.

Seward County’s Giovanna Kuntze was named the division’s Most Valuable Player, while teammate Giovanna Tapigliani was the Freshman of the Year. Saints’ head coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen was the Coach of the Year, leading Seward County to a regular season title at 33-2 and 16-0.

Garden City reached the semifinals on Sunday of the Region VI tournament, losing in straight sets to eventual champion Hutchinson, which knocked off top-seeded and No. 3-ranked nationally Seward County.
