Hesston downs

Maize South

MAIZE — The Hesston High School volleyball team downed Maize South in four sets Thursday in a dual meet in Maize.

Hesston won 25-20, 21-25, 25-10, 25-15.

“Maize South is a talented team that runs a quicker offense than a lot of teams we have seen this year, and they have a number of strong hitters and good blockers,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “The difference tonight is that we were able to maintain good energy throughout the evening, and we passed very well on serve receive, which gave us all of our hitting options. Our hitters were able to score kills on 51 percent of their attacks. We were able to serve fairly aggressively and still served 96 percent for the evening. Our serving kept them out of system frequently, especially in the last two sets, and our blocking helped slow down their attackers and create better balls for our defenders to get quality digs. It was a great night for us to help keep the momentum going into a tough tournament at Clearwater on Saturday.”

Hesston is 28-2 and plays Saturday at the Clearwater Invitational.
