The Scott City Beavers (5-0) continued to roll past their opponents this season and remained undefeated after rolling over the Ulysses Tigers 42-11 in Ulysses Friday night. It was Scott City’s fourth straight win over the Tigers, dating back to 2013.
The Beavers were able to literally and figuratively run over Ulysses on Friday, as the running game was effective against the Tigers. The Beavers accumulated a team total 381 yards on 49 carries and all six of their touchdowns came on the ground.
“We started off pretty slow and had a lot of penalties, which is something that is becoming a regular thing for us, but besides that we played pretty well,” said head coach Jim Turner. “We ran the ball pretty well and our defense was solid once again.”
Junior Wyatt Hayes had 18 carries for 124 yards with three touchdown, senior Jarret Jurgens had 6 carries for 65 yards and two rushing touchdowns and senior Nick Nowak had 9 carries for 117 yards with one TD.
Turner has seen growth in his team and chalks that up to the experience his team has gained in the first half of the season.
“We have seen some of our younger players get some experience and I have seen them getting better,” Turner said.
Scott City will host the Wellington Crusaders next Friday.
