The KJCCC volleyball match schedule did not do the Garden City Community College Busters any favors in the early season.
To open the conference slate, the Busters had road matches at Hutchinson (Aug. 30) and at Seward County (Wednesday), the two teams that tied for the best record in the 2016 KJCCC Division I standings. Like the match at Hutchinson, the Busters were not able to steal a game from the heavyweight Saints, falling 25-12, 25-6, 25-19 Wednesday night in Liberal.
“Defensively, we played well,” GCCC head coach Jacque Matula said. “Our offense put the ball in play. We just have to terminate. Seward was good, and we won’t take that away, but we need to come out better from the start, because Game 3 is a better representation of who we are.”
The Busters fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the KJCCC. Abi Skeeler led with five kills, Madison Park had nine assists and Bailey Martinez 14 digs.
The Busters’ next action comes in their home opener set for 5 p.m. Thursday against Laramie County (Wyo.). Due to the continuing remodeling of the Perryman Athletic Complex’s new Conestoga Arena, the match will be played in the back gym of the complex.
