Holcomb boys, girls dominate Liberal

Junior Tyler LaSalle scored 24 points on Tuesday night to lead the Holcomb Longhorns to an 80-62 rout of Class 5A Liberal on the Redskins home court.

LaSalle, who was 7-of-9 at the free throw line, also hit three 3-point field goals en route to his game-high output.

The victory improved the Longhorns to 9-5 overall. They will host Goodland on Friday.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead over the Redskins and then increased their margin to 40-23 at halftime. It was 60-44 after three periods.

Heath Tucker was next for the Longhorns in the high-scoring affair with 12 points while Aaron Hernandez and Shane Bennett added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

DeVondre Livingston led Liberal's scoring with 20 points and Kenlee West added 11.

Meade 73, Sublette 57

The Meade Buffaloes, fresh off their Hi-Plains League tournament victory on Saturday, used a strong second-half performance on Tuesday night to defeat Sublette, 73-57, in an HPL contest at Sublette.

Sublette led the Buffs, 30-28, at halftime only to see the No. 1-ranked Class 2A team erupt for 45 points in the final two quarters. After a 17-17 first quarter tie, the Larks outscored the Buffs 13-11 in the second period.

Guner Cordes scored 19 points for the Buffs (12-0) to lead four players in double figures. Morgan Davis was next with 17, Randy Friesen added 13 and Chris Hardaway chipped in with 11. Alex White scored 18 points to pace the Larks (6-6) and Taylor Williamson added 15.

Otis-Bison 35, Dighton 31

At Dighton, Trevor Keller and Dylan Wissman scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Otis-Bison (10-4) to a 35-31 victory over the host Hornets (8-5).

The Cougars jumped out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter and led the rest of the way, owning 21-15 and 26-17 leads at the quarter stops. A 14-9 Dighton rally in the final quarter came up just short.

Girls

Holcomb 56, Liberal 20

At Liberal, junior Karissa Pena exploded for 21 points to pace the Holcomb Lady Longhorns to a 56-20 romp over the Lady Redskins.

Pena scored 15 of her points in the first half as the Lady 'Horns raced to quarter leads of 13-4 and 28-10 before halftime. Another 16-5 advantage in the third quarter provided Holcomb a 44-15 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

In addition to Pena, Madison Taylor scored 11 points for the Lady Longhorns, who improved their season record to 9-5. Liberal (2-11) was paced by Kelly Ramirez with six points.
